Some things you have to do every day. Eating seven apples on Saturday night instead of one a day just isn't going to get the job done.
[Jim Rohn]

Watermelon --it's a good fruit. You eat, you drink, you wash your face.
[ Enrico Caruso]

Fruits are acceptable gifts, because they are the flower of commodities, and admit of fantastic values being attached to them. If a man should send to me to come a hundred miles to visit him, and should set before me a basket of fine summer-fruit, I should think there was some proportion between the labor and the reward.
[ Ralph Waldo Emerson]

Apple Meringue

Ingredients

2 cup apple, stewed, hot
1/4 cup sugar
3 each egg, separated
2 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Combine the stewed apples, sugar, butter, lemon juice and spices and
mix well. Beat the egg yolks and add to the apple mixture and beat
until light. Pour into a buttered baking dish and bake at 400-F about
15 minutes. Remove from oven and cover with a meringue made by
beating the egg whites stiff, adding to them the powdered sugar and
vanilla after partially beaten. Return to oven and bake at 325-F to
brown the meringue. Source: Pennsylvania Dutch Cook Book - Fine Old
