Food Tips of the Week
A few tips on healthy eating
In planning a diet, the important thing is to also endeavour to restrict your ingestion of refined carbohydrates, salt and fats.
The case against reduced carbohydrate diets
Its all the rage, but it is truly safe and healthy for you?
Eating more animal-based products might lead into high consumption of saturated fat and cholesterol, which a good number of authorities believe will increase the risk of coronary disease.
Although there is some anecdotal evidence that suggests that reduced carbohydrate diets can help with your weight loss program, some of this some anecdotal evidence has caused controversy among nutritionists, and their relative safety has been challenged
Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, leeks and spring onions)
The onion, leek and garlic family of foods is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Even though there is not much scientific proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also believed to aid in antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and physical exhaustion.
Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your weight loss program.
