Food Tips of the Week

Losing weight

Drink more water. At times during a hectic day, you guess you are peckish but in truth you might only want a restorative glass of water or cranberry juice. The sensations of needing food and needing a drink are close, but one can result in a fat tummy and the alternative is ok.
The case against low carb diets
Its all the rage, but it is really safe for you?
Cutting out carbs might mean missing out on essential nutrients from healthy foods which must be part of any sensible diet, especially those provied by grains, vegetables and fruits.
Scientific studies over the last few years have illustrated that eating excess animal fats can lead to greater risk of cancer, heart problems and other serious conditions.
Foods containing lycopene
(includes apricot, papaya & tomatoes)

The chemical lypcopene is a simple coloring compound and member of the same family of phytochemicals as carotene. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the dark red colour of many foods.

Unlike most other vitamins, lycopene does not become less effective if cooked but is in actuality improved by going through the cooking process.

. Lycoprene's main medical value is that it behaves as an antioxidant and is thought to be of use in the fight to reduce the probabilty of contracting cancer.

This useful phytochemical is the most powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It's also thought by many researchers to hamper the progression of atherosclerosis.
