Adai Recipe
Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup rice 1/3 cup urad dal 1/3 cup chana dal 1/3 cup yellow split peas 1 tsp salt 1 tsp red chili powder 1 large onion (opt) 1 carrot (opt) 1/4 cup coconut, grated (opt)
Recipe
Preparation
Mix rice, chana dal, urad dal, and yellow split peas in a large vessel. Soak in a lot of water for about 2 hours.
Grind the soaked mixture with chili powder and salt coarsely, without adding much water.
Ferment for about 3 - 4 hours, then refrigerate or freeze. In cold weather, the fermenting process might take longer, and it might be a good idea to ferment in an oven (the pilot light will keep the mixture warm).
Add either onions (finely cut), carrot (grated) or coconut before preparing.
Freezing Notes
If freezing, only ferment for about an hour. The mixture will have to be left out for a while before being ready to use.

Food Tips of the Week
Advice on losing weight
If you enjoy your food, but want to become thin and also improve your overall physical condition, then, as most people know, you should follow a meticulously prepared wholesome dietary regime. Theoretically, this needs to involve 5 standard portions of grains, cereals and vegetables every day and also contain the optimum fusion of important nutrients.
Some lower carb diet pointers:
* It is possible to make superb smoothies with reduced carb yogurt.
Admittedly, it is not really cooking, but if you are missing your smoothies you can make them with reduced carb yogurt and fruit. Clearly, you should ensure you only make use of fruit that is low in carbohydrates and use the whole fruit as the fiber is beneficial.
Foods containing carotenes
(includes paprika, collard greens and tomato puree)
These orange and green natural foods are rich in carotenes believed by nutritionalists play a key role in minimizing the risk of cancer, particularly cancers of the stomach and lesophagus. A good number also have a low calorie count, so should be included in every weight loss program.
