Another Irish Soda Bread Recipe <t> Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

6 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup sugar
1 lb raisins
3 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 each caraway seeds to taste
1 (usually 1/8 cup
1 qt buttermilk

Recipe Preparation

Mix all the dry ingredients in a LARGE bowl. Mix in caraway and
rasins. Mix in buttermilk. It helps to use your hands to mix this
because the dough is stickey DO NOT USE AN ELECTRIC MIXER. I did this
a couple of times and the bread came out very flat. Divide batter
into two buttered cake pans. Flour a knife and cut a cross into the
tops of each. Bake at 350 for about an hour. The top should not be
allowed to get to brown.

Food Tips of the Week

Dieting made easy

One useful tip is to drink plenty of water. From time to time at some stage in a hectic morning, you guess that you want a snack but in fact you might just need a refreshing glass of water or orange squash. The feelings of needing food and needing a drink are quite similar, but one of the two can lead to a broken diet and the other is ok.
Some low carbohydrate diet guidlines:

* Food labels can be misleading Don't believe sales blurb that claims to be 'low carb' - check the nutritional information figures on the rear of the can or packet. Some are only a little lowered and in some cases still more than a competitors normal brand. Also, beware of 'low sugar' and 'low fat' labels - 'low sugar' doesn't always mean 'low carb' - usually the carbs are the same.

Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, leeks and spring onions)

The onion, leek and garlic family of foods is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Even though there is not much scientific proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also believed to aid in antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and physical exhaustion.

Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your weight loss program.
