Tabouli Recipe from the Recipes 4U Cookbook

Tabouli Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

1/2 cup bulgur, dry
1 cup water, boiling
1 tomato, chopped
1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
1 (about 3 green onions)
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup garbanzo beans, cooked

Recipe Preparation

Recipe by: McDougall Put the bulgur in a small mixing bowl. Pour the
boiling water over the bulgur. Mix. Cover with a towel and let stand
for 1 hour. After 1 hour the excess water should be removed. The
easiest way to do this is to pour the bulgur and water into a fine
mesh strainer. Let the water drain off, pressing the bulgur with your
hands to remove as much of the excess water as possible. Place the
drained bulgur in a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients. Toss well to
mix. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours to blend flavors.

HELPFUL HINTS: This is a great make-ahead dish, easy to take to a
pot-luck dinner or picnic. Try it stuffed in pita bread for a
different sandwich idea. This recipe can be doubled or quadrupled
easily for larger amounts. Keeps well in regrigerator. From the
collection of Sue Smith, S.Smith34, Uploaded June 16, 1994

Food Tips of the Week

Advice on losing weight

If you enjoy your food, but want to become thin and also improve your overall physical condition, then, as most people know, you should follow a meticulously prepared wholesome dietary regime. Theoretically, this needs to involve 5 standard portions of grains, cereals and vegetables every day and also contain the optimum fusion of important nutrients.
The case against low carb diets
Its extremely popular, but it is truly safe for you?
Most of the bad side-effects stated, like tiredness, diarrhea, constipation, or headaches are only temporary, but critics contend that low carb diets are not without serious long term side effects.
Multiple studies over the years have proved that eating too much animal fat causes increased risk of cancer, coronary problems and other inflammatory disorders.
Carotenoid foods
(includes cilantro, turnip greens and winter squash)
These colorful healthy plants are rich in the carotenoids believed by nutritionalists be a key nutrient in minimizing the risk of cancer, particularly those cancers involving the lung, esophagus and stomach. Most are low in calories, so you should add them to your weight loss regime.
