Bean Burgers (Koss) Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

1 can kidney beans
2 cup brown rice -- cooked
2 tbsp ketchup
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp oregano
1/8 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp sage
1 salt and pepper - to taste
1/4 cup onion -- chopped fine

Recipe Preparation

Combine everything in a large bowl and mash well. Form into 6 patties
and cook in a non-stick pan until browned on both sides.

I consider a serving to be 3 patties. Each serving has 1019 kcal, 6g
fat, 206g carbs, 24g fiber(!!!), and 37g protein.

Rather than thinking about which food types you really should leave out of your meal plan, focus on the nutritionally sound foods that you are able to introduce to your meal plan. Also, beware of 'low sugar' and 'low fat' labels - 'low sugar' does not always mean 'low carb' - usually the carbs are just the same.

* Make reduced carb breadcrumbs for breaded foods. Although you may be able to buy reduced carb bread crumbs, you may also make them by simply using reduced carbohydrate bread. All you have to do is toast the reduced carbohydrate bread in a gas or electric oven on a cookie sheet. Once it is quite hard and crispy, process it in your food mill. Store in an airtight container.

The onion family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Although there is insufficient hard medical proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce symptoms with blood circulation, sterilization and diabetes.

Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so should be included in your weight loss program.
