Food Tips of the Week

Diet tips

At the start of a diet, people most certainly look at food store and big brand food items labelled 'low in fat'. To do this is far too often a miscalculation, in that an item could be significantly reduced in fats, but nevertheless elavated in calories and carbs.
The case against reduced carb diets
Its popular as hell, but it is truly safe for you?
Moreover, it has been proposed that the kidneys may be given too much work to do and that the related change in acid levels in the blood causes bone damage, but some of the medical studies trying to test the hypothesis have struggled to find significant evidence of damage to the kidneys or bone damage.
Reducing carbs could mean missing out on required nutrients from healthy carbohydrate foods which must be part of any sensible diet, especially those provied by vegetables, grains and fruits.
Super foods containing lycopene
(includes apricots, red peppers & tomato)

Lycopene is a non-synthetic chemical compound and part of the carotenid family of phytochemicals. Lycopene is behind the deep red hue of quite a few foods.

Intrestingly, unlike many nutritional compounds, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, but is in fact increased in efficacy by being heated.

. Lycoprene's key value is that it works as an antioxidant and seems to be an asset in the fight to reduce the chances of cancer.

It is the most potent eliminator of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It's also thought to curtail the progression of atherosclerosis.
