Ash-E Jow (Iranian Barley Soup) Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup Dried barley 1/2 cup Dried green or red lentils 6 cup Water 2 medium Onions, diced 2 tablespoon Olive or sunflower oil 1 tablespoon Dried mint or parsley 1 teaspoon Turmeric 1/2 teaspoon Ground black pepper

Preparation
1) Put everything into a pot and then bring to a gentle boil.
2) Simmer for 1 1/4 hours, stirring occasionally.
3) Serve with feta cheese and salad.
Variations: Fry the onions, in the oil, before putting them in the pot. Add 1 cup of cooked chick peas or red kidney beans, a few minutes before serving.

At the start of a diet, people most certainly look at food store and big brand food items labelled 'low in fat'. To do this is far too often a miscalculation, in that an item could be significantly reduced in fats, but nevertheless elavated in calories and carbs.
Some reduced carb diet guidlines:
* Use splenda as a substitute for sugar.

When you require flour for baked goods, repalce it with soy flour or a baking mix such as Atkins soya baking mix. In many cases, you can convert your best loved recipes that use normal wheat flour to use these.

The large family of compounds known as flavonoids which are present in these natural foods are thought to have properties in preventing cancer.
Medical experts studying the nutritional effects of flavonoids believe that they may also have numerous other health benefits, including, but not limited to, anti-dermatitis and anti-platelet properties.
The majority of these are also good for weight loss, so make sure you add them to your weight loss regime.
